Nuclear Medicine

David C.P. Chen, M.D., our president is a well-known Nuclear Medicine Physician. We provide SPECT of heart and brain, quantitative liver/spleen scan, renal scan with GFR, bone scan and other cancer screening examinations. We are also specialized in nuclear medicine therapy with 1-131 for hyperactive thyroid gland and with Sr-89 for metastatic bone disease. We have treated numerous aforementioned cases with fantastic results for many years.

Gastric Emptying SCAN	NPO for at least 4 hours	1-2 ½ hours	Patients should have a liquid or solid meal at the beginning of the study, which is prepared by our staff
Hida Scan	NPO for at least 4 hours	1 ½-4 hours	If NPO for more than 24 hours, please notify the staff. Provide Ctor US results if performed
Parathyroid Scan	None	1-2 hours	We need the results of serum calcium and parathormone.
Thyroid Uptake and Scan	NPO for at least 4 hours. Discontinue following medications: T3(Cytomel) 1 week, T4 (Sunthroid) 4 weeks, PTU/Tapazole 1 week. No contrast study for 2 month (CT, Angiogram).	First day: 20 minutes in the morning,1 hour in the afternoon. Second day: 20 minutes in the morning.	Two days to study.Provide US results if performed. We MUST have the results of thyroid function test. Questionnare to be complete prior to study.
MUGA Scan	None	1 ½ hour	Blood will be drawn and reinjected after labeling
Cardiac Scan Stress or Resting	NPO for at least 4 hours. Discontinue Beta-blockers the day before if possible. No caffeine (coffee, soda, chocolate) for at least 24 hours.	3-5 hours. May vary with different protocols. Please ask the staff for more information.	We need to know the height and weight in advance. Questionnaire and consent form to be completed. May be performed in two days. Fasting prior to study. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
Gallium Scan	None	1st day: 20 mins. 2nd day: 2 hours 3rd day: 30 mins	1st day injection with imaging 48-72 hours later on the 2nd day and if needed 3rd day
WBC Scan	None	1st day: 20 mins in the morning and in the afternoon. 2nd day: 1 ½ hour	1st day: blood will be drawn and reinjected after labeling. 2nd day: images will be acquired.
Brain	None	1-2 hours	Provide MRI or CT results if performed.
Octreotide ScanAntibody Scan	Please contact the nuclear medicine staff	Multiple days,1-4 hours	Provide Mri or CT results if performed.
Renal ScanRenal Scan with Lasix	Drink about 4 large glasses of water in one-hour prior to study	1 hour	Provide CT or US results if performed
Renal Scan with Captroprill	Discontinue ACE-Inhibitor & diuretic for 3 days if possible. Drink about 4 large glasses of water 1-hour prior to study otherwise NPO for 4-6 hours.	2 hours	Provide CT or US results of performed.
